In great contrast to the country’s current proven domestic reserves of 21.9 billion barrels, there are approximately 89 billion barrels of additional oil trapped in onshore reserves. Horizon’s mission is to help revitalize American oilfields using up-to-the-minute techniques to access these resources.
EAST TEXAS
As fields from Louisiana to North Dakota are beginning to show signs of fatigue, drillers are targeting areas that have been long overlooked or barely tapped. From the site of the 1901 Spindletop – the most famous gusher of all time – and throughout East Texas, producers are returning to areas that helped fuel America’s rise as a superpower post-World War II. They’re applying new techniques to layers of stacked rock that oil companies have drilled for decades

SOUTH TEXAS
There is an increasing amount of drilling in the layers above and below the South Texas shale play, which has emerged among the hottest fields in the nation for oil and gas production. The Eagle Ford Shale is nestled among various geologic layers, many of which are also producing oil and gas. While the Eagle Ford appears to be the mother lode — the largest and most consistent South Texas formation holding the most oil and gas — there are at least 10 other rock layers sitting above or below it that also are producing oil or gas.
